Yoga for the Mind fuses yoga therapy with mindfulness to help you regulate your nervous system, while developing greater self-awareness and insight. We rely on ancient yoga techniques and inform them with the latest findings in neuroscience. By combining yoga postures, breathing techniques, and mindfulness with psychotherapeutic holding, this course addresses the physiological and psychological dimensions of depression and anxiety.

New scientific research continues to affirm that depression, anxiety, and stress are best treated with a method that addresses both the physiological and psychological dimensions. Yoga for the Mind specifically targets these elements in a clear comprehensive way that can easily be integrated into everyday living for both short and long-term positive mental health.

Our sequence of exercises and breath is specifically designed to rebalance and to develop greater resilience in the nervous system, alleviating some of the severity of both anxious and depressed states. In a variety of yoga exercises students learn how to co-exist equally with both comfortable and uncomfortable physical sensations through deep breathing and relaxing. By learning how to be with various sensations in the body we develop greater tolerance to be with various thoughts in a gentle way with less resistance. Additionally, the yoga practices instruct individuals on how to create joy and contentment in the present moment. Further, students are invited to explore mental patterns, perceptions, and habits that keep them stuck in unfulfilling life experiences.

During the course every student receives individual attention and instruction, so they feel safe and supported. At the end of each yoga session there is an optional discussion period for students to talk about their experiences during the class and how to use what they learned when facing the challenges of daily living.

Each yoga therapy session follows a specific theme related to healing depression and anxiety and builds on cumulative principles and practices from the previous weeks. Students are given homework and reading material to help integrate yoga and mindfulness practice into their daily life. All levels of yoga and meditation are welcome.

One-to-ones

Not everyone wants to join a group or has the time. Maybe you prefer a programme designed especially for you. If this is the case, private sessions may be just what you need.
Private sessions are an opportunity to develop and deepen your own yoga therapy practice, tailor-made to your own needs. Typically, a session includes both talking and yoga therapy practices that relate to your situation at the present moment. You will be provided with detailed and gentle guidance and are also given homework for regular self practice.

Generally a minimum of six yoga therapy sessions are recommended for an individual to see results.

The course lasts for 8 sessions.
